Lucknow, April 27 (). On the last day of withdrawal of nominations, 86 candidates including one municipal and one town panchayat president were declared elected unopposed for various posts in the municipal corporation. The State Election Commission (SEC) made this announcement ahead of the first phase of polling for the upcoming civic elections in 37 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
According to a spokesperson of the commission, a town panchayat president was elected unopposed in Agra district. Similarly, two corporators each were elected in Agra, Mathura, Gorakhpur, and Moradabad Municipal Corporations and one each in Jhansi, Firozabad and Saharanpur.
Similarly, 37 Nagar Panchayat members elected unopposed include 13 in Maharajganj, 10 in Gonda, three in Kushinagar, two each in Prayagraj, Fatehpur and Mainpuri and one each in Gonda and Shravasti.
Also, 36 municipal council members in different districts were elected unopposed along with one municipal president in Jhansi district.
State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar said that the first phase of civic elections will be held in 37 districts on May 4.
