With the recent launch of the iPhone 17 series and the new iPhone Air, fresh debates have emerged, particularly since Apple’s official website does not list these new devices as compatible with the expensive cloth. According to Apple’s latest compatibility chart, the polishing cloth is suitable for devices starting from the iPhone 5 to last year’s iPhone 16 Pro Max, as well as numerous iPads, MacBooks, and Apple Watches.
However, the newly introduced iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the ultra-thin iPhone Air are notably absent from this list. This omission seems perplexing to many, as it is simply a microfiber cloth, which should be able to clean any smooth glass surface. Industry experts suggest that this issue may be less about the cloth’s functionality and more about Apple not having updated its accessory page since the September 9 launch event. The iPhone 17 series and the iPhone Air are expected to be added to the compatibility list before the devices are available to customers, indicating that Apple is finalizing details on its website ahead of the new iPhones’ sale.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 17 series will commence on September 12, with retail availability scheduled for September 19, giving Apple a week to revise its accessory documentation. In the meantime, potential buyers need not be overly concerned; regardless of whether the iPhone 17 series is officially listed, the Rs 1,900 cloth will certainly be effective for cleaning screens. Regarding pricing in India, the base iPhone 17 has been set at Rs 82,900, representing a modest increase of Rs 3,000 from the iPhone 16, though Apple has compensated by doubling the base storage to 256GB.
The new iPhone Air, noted for being the thinnest and lightest model in the lineup at just 5.6mm thick and weighing 165 grams, is priced at Rs 1,19,900. For those needing more power, the iPhone 17 Pro starts at Rs 1,34,900, while the larger iPhone 17 Pro Max begins at Rs 1,49,900 for the 256GB version, with the highest storage option, a 2TB model, costing Rs 2,29,900. Despite the compatibility oversight, it is unlikely to pose significant issues for consumers.
Although the Rs 1,900 cloth may appear to be a luxury item, Apple’s dedicated customer base has consistently demonstrated a willingness to invest in such premium accessories, particularly once the company’s website updates the compatibility information for the iPhone 17 lineup.
