Baghpat: A 40-year-old man was killed by his relatives due to a long-standing family dispute when he attended his mother’s funeral, according to police reports on Thursday. The incident occurred at Jhankar Gali in the Eidgah area of Baghpat on Wednesday. The victim, identified as Nafees, had allegedly eloped with his cousin’s wife around six years prior. They later married and resided in Saharanpur. Following the death of his mother, Maksudi, Nafees traveled from Saharanpur to participate in the funeral. After the prayers, as he reached the graveyard, he was reportedly attacked by his cousins, their sons, and a son-in-law.

They dragged him from the graveyard, threw him onto the road, and struck his head with bricks, resulting in his immediate death. Police arrived at the scene and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. D K Tyagi, Station House Officer of Kotwali police station, stated that an FIR has been filed against six individuals, including the primary suspect, Mohsin, who is now in custody. Authorities are actively working to locate and apprehend the others involved.
