Patna: Tejashwi Yadav seems poised to retain the Raghopur assembly seat after late counting trends showed him gaining a significant lead, despite a challenging overall day for the Rashtriya Janata Dal. For several hours, the counting indicated a competitive race, raising concerns that even one of the RJD’s prominent leaders might face difficulties in maintaining his position. According to the Election Commission’s latest data, Yadav has surpassed the one-lakh vote threshold, leading by approximately 14,000 votes over his nearest competitor, Satish Kumar from the BJP. Although the results have not yet been officially announced, the margins observed in the final counting rounds suggest a highly likely outcome. The contest remained finely balanced until the last stages of counting.
Trends fluctuated between the RJD and the BJP before ultimately shifting decisively in favor of Yadav. Independent candidate Baliram Singh secured third place, while Chanchal Kumar from Jan Suraj only received 2,371 votes. Nevertheless, the RJD’s overall performance has significantly underperformed expectations, even as its leader retains his individual seat. Throughout the state, the NDA’s strong showing has transformed the political landscape, providing limited opportunities for the opposition.
