New Delhi, April 3 (). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday attacked the previous governments for their apparent laxity in tackling corruption and said it was only after 2014, when the BJP-led government came to power, that the problem was dealt with firmly.
Addressing a gathering to inaugurate the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Modi said India unfortunately inherited corruption at the time of independence and regretted the fact that instead of removing it, some people have been nurturing it.
Modi said, scams and impunity under the UPA government in power destroyed the system and an environment of policy paralysis stalled development.
The Prime Minister said that the priority of the government is to instill confidence in the system and for this the government has started taking action against black money and benami property in a mission mode and eliminating the causes of corruption along with harming the corrupt. done.
He stressed on bringing transparency in the process of issuing government tenders and also highlighted the difference between 2G and 5G spectrum allocation.
Modi said that GeM (Government e-Marketplace) portal has been set up to ensure transparency in purchases in every department of the central government.
The Prime Minister said, there is no dearth of political will to act against corruption in the country today.
He told the officials that no matter how powerful the corrupt are, action should be taken against them without any hesitation.
Modi asked them not to be deterred by the history of power of the corrupt and the machinery created by them to tarnish the investigative agencies.
These people will keep on misleading you, but you have to focus on your work, the prime minister told the top police and intelligence officers. No corrupt person should be spared. There should be no laxity in our efforts. This is the wish of the country, this is the wish of the countrymen. Country, law and constitution are with you.
He said, corruption is not a simple crime, it takes away the rights of the poor, it gives rise to many other crimes, corruption is the biggest obstacle in the path of justice and democracy.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister praised the premier investigative agency, saying that through its work and skill, the CBI has instilled confidence in the common citizens of the country.
A developed India is not possible without professional and efficient institutions, he said.
Prime Minister said, the main responsibility of CBI is to free the country from corruption.
During the event, a Investiture Ceremony was also held for the recipients of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Gold Medal for Best Investigating Officers of the CBI, in which the Prime Minister presented the medals to the awardees.
He also inaugurated newly constructed office complexes of CBI at Shillong, Pune and Nagpur and also launched the Twitter handle of CBI.
