Akhanda 2: Thaandavam is generating excitement in India, but the initial US box office figures are varied. The film is set to release in over three weeks, with advance bookings in the US starting off slowly. Currently, the production team has garnered USD 42,000 (approximately ₹37 lakh) for the opening shows. Expectations for the film are high as Balakrishna reprises his powerful Aghora role, which fans adored in the first Akhanda. The sequel’s budget exceeds ₹200 crore, marking the highest of Balakrishna’s career, making the modest early bookings somewhat unexpected. Industry analysts suggest that ticket sales may increase closer to the release date. With 22 days remaining, advance sales could potentially reach USD 400,000 if momentum builds.
Directed by Boyapati Sreenu, the film combines elements of action, spirituality, and mythology. The cast features Samyuktha Menon, Aadhi Pinisetty, and Harshaali Malhotra. Filming commenced in Hyderabad in October 2024, with significant scenes shot in the Himalayas and at the Kumbh Mela, along with some segments filmed in Georgia. The crew completed shooting and dubbing by August 2025. Major promotional activities will kick off soon, including the launch of a new song in Mumbai on November 14. Balakrishna follows up his successful film Daaku Maharaj, which earned ₹91 crore, leaving fans eager to see if Akhanda 2 can achieve similar or greater success.
