Bengaluru, June 3 (). Karnataka Railways DIG Shashi Kumar said on Saturday that all passengers of Karnataka are safe in the horrific train accident in Odisha’s Balasore.
Talking to the media here, Shashi Kumar said that the train going from Karnataka was also damaged. Of its 23 coaches, three were damaged.
The DIG said that till now there is no information about the presence of any passenger from Karnataka in those coaches. Railway officials have been in touch with the authorities in Odisha since the accident.
He reiterated that helplines have been set up at four places and there was no report of any casualty among passengers from the state.
Kumar said that the coaches in which the people from Karnataka were traveling were not damaged. A team will be sent to the accident site under the leadership of a Deputy SP rank officer.
We have started four help desks and till now no call has been received, he said. Wrong information should not be given. So far no death of any passenger from Karnataka has been reported.
Sources said there were 110 passengers from the state in the Howrah-bound train from Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal in Bengaluru that met with the accident on Friday. Fortunately everyone is completely safe.
These passengers are from Kalasa town in Chikmagalur district and were traveling in S5, S6 and S7 coaches from Bengaluru.
Sources said that after the engine was changed, all of them were shifted to the first coach after the engine. The rear four coaches were seriously damaged in the collision with the other train.
