Bangalore, May 30 (). Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Tuesday announced that all women in the state can travel free of cost in government buses.
He made the announcement while speaking to reporters after a meeting with the managing directors of four divisions of the Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).
Women can travel free of cost in government buses, he said. There is no condition. In our manifesto, we have not mentioned any condition on the scheme applicable to APL or BPL card holders. Women can travel for free across the state.
Minister Ramalinga Reddy said, I have spoken to the MD and discussed the plan. I will submit the report of the meeting, including the cost and other details, to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in this regard. CM Siddaramaiah has already discussed with the Principal Secretary of Transport Department.
The cabinet meeting is to be held on Wednesday, he said. It will be discussed in the cabinet and CM Siddaramaiah will make an announcement in this regard after the cabinet meeting.
He said, I have also discussed the loss caused during the coronavirus pandemic. Ours is a reputed transport corporation of the country. The four transport corporations under the ministry have received over 350 awards and 240 units are in operation. There are 23,978 vehicles, more than 1.04 lakh employees. Every day 82.51 lakh people travel in state-owned buses and a revenue of Rs 2,31,332 is earned daily.
