The iPhone Pocket is not just a $230 accessory from Apple; it is an embroidered pouch, specifically a sock-like pouch, designed to hold your iPhone instead of placing it in a purse or pocket. This limited-edition item is a collaboration with Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake and is priced at $229.95 for the crossbody version, available in blue, brown, and black. A smaller variant retails for $149.95 and comes in vibrant colors such as purple, orange, yellow, turquoise, and pink. Users can drape the pouch on their arm or attach it to a bag for convenient phone carrying.
Apple claims its 3-D knitted pattern is inspired by fabric, aiming to create an extra pocket for every iPhone and other small items. This option is more versatile compared to Apple’s $59 crossbody case strap, which allows you to carry more while keeping your phone accessible. Yoshiyuki Miyamae, design director at Miyake Design Studio, notes, “The design of iPhone Pocket illustrates the connection between the iPhone and its owner while maintaining Apple’s universal aesthetic and versatility.
iPhone Pocket emphasizes the joy of having your iPhone at hand.” This innovation echoes Steve Jobs’s humorous remark about the iPod crossbody sock for $29 in 2004, which he described as a “revolutionary brand new item.” While Apple has a history of turning unconventional ideas into viral products, the iPhone Pocket marks a bold advancement in wearable tech fashion. It will be available online starting November 14th and at select Apple Store locations across the US, France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the UK.
