Pune, May 1 (). Taking a tough stand, the Pune Police arrested Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman’s mega-concert, leaving thousands of spectators and fans disappointed.
The incident happened on late Sunday night. The show was held at a huge open-air venue near Rajbahadur Mills, with thousands of fans turning up to groove to Rahman’s top tunes.
At 10 pm a senior police officer ordered the organizers to stop the show immediately as it had exceeded the permissible time limit.
Rahman was singing his superhit number, Chal Chaiyya Chaiyya, during which a policeman walked straight up to him and pointed to the clock and asked him to end the show.
But the musicians ignored this instruction and continued with the concert, the angry officer went to one of them and warned that if they don’t finish, he will take strict action.
On his part, Rahman – who shot to fame with his scintillating melodies in Roja (1992) himself stepped off the stage and walked away quietly without any fuss or comment.
The crowd continued to voice their displeasure, but the music concert was over.
