Assam government to set up separate board for recruitment of college teachers

Guwahati, March 30 (). The Assam government on Thursday informed the Assembly that a Central Hiring Board would be set up to recruit teachers in colleges across the state.

The college authorities have been told not to initiate any fresh recruitment process on their own.

State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that a large number of pending court cases related to the recruitment of teachers forced the government to take this decision.

“We have now decided to give up academic-based recruitment by colleges,” he said. This approach causes a lot of legal disputes.

Responding to a question raised by AIUDF MLA Ashraful Hussain, Pegu said, the education department is facing at least 2,500 court cases related to recruitment of teachers in schools and colleges.

The minister said that a total of 640 teaching posts are lying vacant in colleges across the state.

We have decided to have a centralized recruitment board, Pegu said. After passing the selection test a candidate will be posted in the college of his/her choice.

However, the colleges which have already started the recruitment process have been allowed to complete it.
