Guwahati, April 22 (). Assam Youth Congress chief Angkita Dutta was on Saturday expelled from the party for six years for anti-party activities.
The Congress President has expelled Assam Pradesh Youth Congress President Angkita Dutta from the primary membership of the party for six years with immediate effect for her anti-party activities, an official statement from the All India Congress Committee said.
Two days ago, Dutta, in a series of tweets, alleged that Youth Congress national president Srinivas B.V. Harassed her many times for being a woman.
Angkita also claimed that she informed Rahul Gandhi about the wrongdoings of Srinivas and sought his intervention in the matter.
She wrote, I had a lot of faith in Rahul Gandhi and went to Jammu during Bharat Jodo to inform him about Srinivas’s harassment and use of derogatory language towards me. But so far no investigation has been done against him.
Dutta claimed that she remained silent for months while waiting for top party officials to take action against Srinivas. But despite their complaints, no inquiry committee was constituted.
In his tweet, the Assam Congress leader asked Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, I am a woman leader. If I go through this kind of harassment, how do I encourage other women to join the Congress party?
Responding to his allegation, the Indian Youth Congress legal cell has sent a defamation notice to Dutta. The Assam Pradesh Congress has also issued a show cause notice to him.
Angkita Dutta also filed a complaint at Dispur police station in Guwahati alleging mental harassment against Srinivas BV and recorded her statement before the court on Friday.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, the incident is an internal matter of the Congress party. I don’t want to be involved in this. However, if they fail to resolve the issue of the woman leader of Assam, the police will take action.
