Dhaka, April 18 (). For the first time in a decade, the average life expectancy of people in Bangladesh has declined. This has been revealed from official figures. According to the data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics on Monday, the average life expectancy stood at 72.3 years in 2021, up from 72.8 years in 2020, bd news24 reported.
Data has shown that COVID-19 has wiped out the achievements made by the country in this field over the past decades.
Life expectancy for men stood at 70.6 in 2021, up from 71.2 in 2020, Xinhua news agency quoted the report as saying.
Life expectancy for females was 74.1 years in 2021, up from 74.5 years in 2020.
The report also states that the population growth rate in 2021 was 1.301 persons per thousand, which is slightly lower than 1.303 persons in 2020.
