Kolkata, May 13 (). Leaders of the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress on Saturday said West Bengal had shown the way for 2023 to the people of Karnataka in 2021 and proved that the BJP is not invincible.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the Karnataka results are the beginning of the end of the BJP across the country.
He said, first West Bengal showed the way. From Bengal to Bangalore, people have started speaking on the same lines. There are assembly elections in some more states in the near future. BJP will lose there too. Ultimately, in 2024, the people of the country will oust the BJP from power.
Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said, you can vote for anyone using your democratic right. Just defeat the BJP. Our Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee has been saying this again and again. This is exactly what has happened in Karnataka. We are happy. West Bengal showed the way in 2021, which has been replicated in Karnataka.
He also said that polarization of voters using religious sentiments cannot be the strategy of any political party. The BJP had repeatedly tried to mislead the people by using religious sentiments, he said. I am happy that Bengal has shown the way and Karnataka has repeated the same.
However, despite congratulating the people of Karnataka for the results, both Banerjees remained silent about the Congress, which actually paved the way for the BJP’s defeat there.
When specifically asked by media persons on his views about the Congress leading the opposition alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Chief Minister declined to comment. He said, I have said whatever I had to say.
Abhishek Banerjee gave full credit to the people of Karnataka. He said the result reflected the unity of the people against the BJP.
Meanwhile, state Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the Karnataka results have proved that only his party can lead an alliance that can defeat the BJP at the national level.
The theory of an alternative non-Congress and non-BJP front has no relevance, Chowdhury said. The Congress is in the position of operating an anti-BJP front.
He also claimed that the Trinamool is actually against a united opposition alliance. “The MPs of her (Mamata Banerjee’s) party did not vote when we fielded a united opposition candidate against Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Vice-Presidential election,” Chowdhury said. The Trinamool is also reluctant to have any coordination within Parliament.
