Kolkata, 25 April (). Trinamool Congress national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee will on Tuesday begin his 60-day program covering all the districts of the state ahead of the panchayat elections in West Bengal.
The outreach campaign will start from Cooch Behar in North Bengal and end in Kakdwip district of Coastal South 24 Parganas on June 24.
According to Banerjee, the main objective of the outreach campaign program is to get the best candidates for the Trinamool Congress for the upcoming rural body elections. More importantly, he said, the selection of the candidates will not be done only on the basis of the choice of the district leadership of the party, but on the basis of the choice of the common people who they want to see as Trinamool Congress candidates. .
He said that this would be the first time in the whole country that any political party is selecting its candidates for the elections after taking opinion from the common people.
Abhishek Banerjee said, our aim is to field such candidates who can serve the people better after being elected. Correct selection of candidates will ensure free, fair and peaceful elections. There will be a secret ballot in the camp offices on this vote. People can also express their opinion online in this matter.
The entire process will be monitored by a 22-member election committee headed by veteran Congress leader and former member Subrata Bakshi. The members of the Election Committee, which will oversee the entire election process, will not be able to nominate any candidate for any of the three tiers in the panchayat system.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari has claimed that the program is basically a public relations exercise and not a political one. Common people are not interested in the program and we are also ignoring it, he said.
Reacting to the announcements of the officials, Abhishek Banerjee claimed that the final result would tell how popular the program would be among the common people.
