Patna: Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraaj Party has launched a comprehensive challenge in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, presenting 239 candidates statewide in the two-phase polls. Contesting independently against both the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition Grand Alliance, the party aims to establish itself as a viable alternative in this election cycle. The party’s leading seven candidates are generating considerable interest: Sarfaraz Alam from Jokihat, KC Sinha from Kumhrar, Preeti Kinnar from Bhore, Abu Affan Farooq from Kochadhaman, Ritesh Ranjan Pandey from Kargahar, and Manish Kashyap from Chanpachatia, where he is currently in the lead. The candidate list showcases a diverse array of backgrounds, including doctors, engineers, and other professionals, alongside individuals with political or grassroots leadership experience.
Notably, 85 candidates have identified agriculture as their primary occupation in their affidavits, indicating strong rural representation. Jan Suraaj has also emphasized educational qualifications among its candidates, with fifty-five being postgraduates, 94 graduates, and 11 holding PhDs. Moreover, 34 candidates have completed Class 12, and 18 have Class 10 as their highest qualification. As the counting continues, the performance of Jan Suraaj’s prominent candidates will be closely monitored to evaluate the party’s influence and its potential to translate outreach into electoral success.
