Bihar Family's Tragic Suicide Linked To Mobile Phone Dispute

A devastating event unfolded in Naya Bhojpur village, Buxar district, on Tuesday when a woman and her two children lost their lives after reportedly ingesting pesticide. This tragic act allegedly followed a disagreement with her husband regarding the purchase of a mobile phone. Police reported that Savita Devi, age 30, wife of daily-wage mason Sunil Kumar, consumed pesticide around 1 p.m. and administered it to her three children as well. Family members quickly transported them to Dumraon Sub-Divisional Hospital, but they were later referred to Buxar Sadar Hospital due to the severity of their conditions. Unfortunately, doctors confirmed that Savita Devi, her five-year-old daughter Jyoti, and three-year-old son Akash died during treatment.

The youngest child, 12-month-old Vikas, remains in critical condition and has been sent to PMCH, Patna. Sunil Kumar shared with reporters that Savita had been requesting a mobile phone for several days. “When I refused to purchase one on Tuesday, she became upset and took this drastic action,” he stated. He also revealed that this was his third marriage, with Jyoti being from his first wife, who had passed away. Dr.

Saraswati Chandra Mishra from Buxar Sadar Hospital confirmed that the cause of death was pesticide ingestion, noting, “Initial medical examination clearly indicates symptoms of organophosphate poisoning.” Following the incident, Station House Officer Manoj Kumar Singh visited the hospital to launch an investigation, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The community is mourning this tragedy, with locals expressing disbelief that a minor disagreement over a mobile phone could result in such a loss of life. “No one imagined such a small quarrel could lead to this,” lamented one neighbor, visibly emotional.
