BJP leader hints at stopping Sunday's rally of MVA in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Mumbai, March 31 (). Against the backdrop of disturbances during Ram Navami in various parts of Maharashtra, a senior state minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday indicated that the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi rally proposed in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Sunday may be put on hold.

Medical Education Minister Girish Mahajan said if the MVA rally could create law and order problems, the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP government could not allow it.

The Congress-Nationalist Congress Party-Shiv Sena (UBT) has scheduled a joint rally on April 2 in the historic city famous for the Ajanta-Ellora cave temples.

Mahajan told media persons that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis are keeping a close watch on the situation in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

The minister said, if the police report that it is not right to hold the rally at this time, then a suitable decision can be taken considering the situation.

Earlier on Friday, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP and chief spokesperson Sanjay Raut pointed fingers at the government’s efforts to derail the MVA mega show at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

We have information that neither of the two groups wanted violence, but the government wanted unrest, Raut claimed. It supported those who resorted to violence. Raut claimed that there was state-sponsored violence to stop our rally on Sunday.

However, state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule rejected Raut’s arguments and warned that if the situation worsens again, the Sena (UBT) MP should be held responsible for making inflammatory statements.

Top leaders of major political parties have appealed to all to exercise restraint and refrain from making provocative statements that could escalate the delicate situation.

Meanwhile, tight security arrangements have been made in the state along with other forces like SRPF, CRPF and RAF to prevent any untoward incident.
