Chandigarh, May 22 (). The Forest and Wildlife Department of Chandigarh has set up a bonsai garden with a combination of 74 plant species up to 35 years of age at the Botanical Garden in Sarangpur.
Bonsai is one of the beautiful art forms of growing plants, most commonly associated with Japan, but originated in China. It is a miniature form of a big tree, which has been made with the help of many techniques.
Bonsai tree requires constant effort and maintenance. This art form flourished and persisted for centuries in Japan and is classified on the basis of their growth, habit and variety.
Dharam Pal, Advisor to the Administrator inaugurated the Bonsai Garden and appreciated the efforts of the Forest Department. He said that the garden will help in attracting the attention of the visitors, where they can enjoy nature. He appealed to the school children to change their lifestyle for environmental protection.
He administered the LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment) pledge to the gathering.
Chief Conservator of Forests Debendra Dalai said that the department has established a 176-acre botanical garden for the conservation of flora. It is a place where plants are grown and displayed for the purposes of research, education and awareness.
