Guwahati, May 1 (). Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that only the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) can solve the problems of Hindu Bengalis. He said this while targeting Assam Congress leader Debabrata Saikia, who has in the past few days attacked the BJP over the issue of a large number of Hindu families in Udalguri and Tamulpur districts receiving notices to prove their citizenship.
Saikia said that the BJP campaigns for providing security to Hindu families in every election, but in Assam people from that community are being tortured to prove their citizenship. In the last few weeks, several families in Udalguri and Tamulpur have received notices to prove their citizenship, he said.
Responding to Saikia’s remarks, the Chief Minister on Sunday said, CAA is the only solution to these problems. Until this is implemented, we do not have any other system to solve the difficulties faced by the Hindu Bengali people regarding citizenship.
He also took a dig at media persons on the issue of CAA. Sarma said, when we insist on CAA, the media keeps attacking us.
