Kolkata, April 18 (). A single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered an inquiry against Tapas Saha, another Trinamool Congress MLA from Tehatta assembly constituency, in the multi-crore teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal.
Allegations of Saha’s involvement in the recruitment scam had surfaced some time back and the state police was also probing the matter. However, on Tuesday, a single judge bench of Calcutta High Court Justice Rajasekhar Mantha directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation with immediate effect.
Justice Mantha also directed the state police to hand over all relevant documents, including the case-diary, to the authorities of the central agency at the earliest.
The main allegation against Saha is that he took Rs 16 crore to illegally get ineligible candidates employed in government schools.
A PIL in the matter was filed in the Calcutta High Court in 2018 by BJP leader and advocate Tarunjyoti Tiwari of the same court. On that PIL, a single judge bench ordered the CBI to initiate an investigation against Tapas Saha.
Responding to media persons after the order, Tiwari said that there are allegations of Saha being involved in recruitments in various departments besides teaching and non-teaching staff.
Tiwari said that though the state police is probing such allegations, they have never detained or interrogated them. The state police could not give any satisfactory answer on why the charge sheet was not filed even after one year of the investigation. Therefore, the bench ordered the CBI to start investigation against Saha.
