Kanpur/Aligarh, April 28 (). Police have registered FIRs against hundreds of unidentified people in different police stations of Kanpur and Aligarh for offering namaz on the streets on the occasion of Eid.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr in Kanpur, police have registered three FIRs against 1700 people for offering namaz on the road in Badi Idgah, Benajhabar, Jajmau and Babupurwa.
An FIR has been lodged against 1500 people in Benajhabar. Similarly, an FIR has been registered against 200 to 300 people in Jajmau and 30 to 40 in Babupurwa. The accused also include members of Idgah Management Committees.
Sub-inspector Brijesh Kumar, who lodged the FIR at Babupurwa in Kanpur, said that during the peace committee meeting, it was decided that prayers would be offered inside the Idgah and those who could not offer prayers due to the crowd, would go to another place. Prayers will be offered in Pali.
Similarly, in the FIR registered with the Bajaria police, it has been said that despite prohibitory orders, hundreds of people attended Eid prayers on the streets. Police tried to stop them from doing so, but they did not agree.
Kanpur Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhya Pramod Kumar said that the police is examining the CCTV and drone footage.
In Aligarh, two cases have been registered in two different police stations against unknown people for offering prayers on the road on the day of goodbye and Eid-ul-Fitr.
On April 21 and 22, people offered Namaz on the roads connecting Khatikan Square to Sabzi Mandi Square and Charkhwalan Square to Marghatwale Road in Aligarh city.
A case has been registered in this regard at Kotwali Nagar and Delhi Gate police stations.
Aligarh Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh Gunawat said, elaborate arrangements were made in Aligarh by the district administration and police. Meetings were held with religious leaders and representatives of the peace committee to ensure that prayers are not offered on the streets on Eid. Such information was also disseminated through the media. Despite this, prayers were offered on the road.
Police officials are now reviewing CCTV footage to identify those who violated the prohibitory orders.
