New Delhi, April 27 (). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested an absconding accused in the 2012 rhino poaching case.
A senior CBI official said that the accused has been identified as Raidang Ingti. The CBI said that after persistent efforts, the team traced the accused to Lhomithi village in Dimapur. Where he was arrested after the raid.
The CBI had registered the case on the request of the Assam government and later took over the investigation on the basis of the FIR lodged at Rongmongwe police station in Karbi Anglong.
The complaint alleged that on July 1, 2012, unknown poachers had killed a rhinoceros and taken away its horn. The carcass of the animal (rhinoceros) was found in a ditch in Longkoi Tisso village of Karbi Anglong.
During investigation, it was found that after killing the rhino its horn was sold to the arrested accused in Dimapur.
The CBI said that the connivance of the accused had come to the fore as the person through whom illegal horn trade was carried out and huge amount of money was transacted.
After investigation, a charge sheet was filed against the five accused on 31 March 2018. The arrested accused will be produced before the competent court at Dimapur.
