Kolkata, April 17 (). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has found the involvement of arrested Trinamool Congress MLA Jiban Krishna Saha in the case of illegal recruitment of teachers in government schools in West Bengal.
Sources said these could include the papers seized from Saha’s residence – both hardcopy and digital.
Sources said preliminary evidence revealed that Saha was involved in the recruitment of over 3,200 candidates as teachers in primary, upper primary and secondary classes.
The amount of bribe was fixed according to the grade. Secondary grades had the highest rates and primary grades had the lowest.
At the time of writing, the probe agency officials had brought Saha along with the seized documents from his residence to the agency’s Nizam Palace office in central Kolkata.
He will soon be taken to the hospital for medical examination, after which he will be produced before the special CBI court in Kolkata. Sources said the central agency’s lawyers would seek his custody.
According to sources, Saha has revealed the involvement of some other ruling party MLAs from Murshidabad and Birbhum districts in the scam. A CBI aide said the probe is on and most likely the people named by Saha will be called for questioning in the coming days.
Meanwhile, a political tussle has started regarding Saha’s arrest. BJP national vice-president and party’s Lok Sabha member Dilip Ghosh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the diamond jubilee celebrations of CBI recently, had asked the officers of the central agency to act against corruption without fear. Ghosh said, this message of the Prime Minister has made the CBI officers more fearless. He has expedited the action in the scam of teachers in West Bengal.
Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Dr. Shantanu Sen said that if CBI officers have the courage, they should act with equal zeal against corrupt leaders in the BJP.
Ridiculing the Trinamool Congress over Saha’s arrest, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari said that with the speed with which ruling party MLAs are being arrested, the time is not far when the number of Trinamool Congress MLAs in West Bengal will reach 100. will be less than
