New Delhi, April 20 (). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday filed an FIR against the former director (marketing) of GAIL (India) Limited, under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, on charges of amassing disproportionate assets in the name of himself and his family members. According to sources, former director (marketing) of GAIL (India) Ltd. E.S. Searches were conducted at Ranganathan’s residence and office premises.
Examination of documents collected and seized during the investigation of the case revealed that Ranganathan had joined GAIL on October 14, 1985. He worked as the Managing Director in Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) from 2016 to 2020 on a secondment basis. Later he joined GAIL (India) Limited as Executive Director and held the position of Director (Marketing).
Ranganathan during his postings in IGL and GAIL, he and his wife V.N. Acquired properties (both movable and immovable) in the name of Meenakshi by corrupt and illegal means. The CBI officer said, during the check period from January 1, 2017 to January 17, 2022, Ranganathan owned five immovable properties. Ranganathan was also in possession of a huge amount of Rs 1,29,10,500 in cash, gold jewellery, foreign currencies and huge amounts in several bank accounts opened in his name as well as that of his wife, which he could not satisfactorily account for.
The official said that during the check period from 2017 to 2022, Ranganathan’s income through salary and other sources of income was Rs 5,44,30,515 and his expenditure was Rs 4,02,83,712. Ranganathan’s assets in proportion to his known sources of income have been calculated at Rs 4,82,70,308. He has acquired assets in the name of his wife and himself which were more than his known source of income (88.68 per cent). We have registered a case against him under relevant sections of IPC and PC Act.
Ranganathan may be called to join the probe in the coming days.
