New Delhi, April 21 (). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik to give more information in an alleged corruption case. The case pertains to a health insurance scheme that he was allegedly pressured to pass but canceled when he was the governor of the then state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Malik had claimed that between August 23, 2018 and October 30, 2019, he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to clear files during his tenure as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the source, the CBI has asked Malik to appear before the agency on April 27 or April 28. CBI officials can contact him on both the days. The source said that as of now, it appears that Malik may join the CBI headquarters in the national capital.
The matter pertains to the issue of Reliance Insurance, the source said. While the Center wanted a green signal for the plan, it was canceled by Malik, the then governor of Jammu and Kashmir. According to Malik, it was a health insurance scheme for central government employees. Malik had also said that the condition of the hospitals empaneled under the scheme was poor.
Now CBI is seeking more information to decide further course of action. It is learned that if Malik’s claims are found to have merit, the CBI may register a case, otherwise not.
