Bhavnagar, May 5 (). A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Gujarat Police on Thursday registered a case against 15 people in Bhavnagar district for making fake pedigree certificates and making fraudulent claims of Goods and Services Tax (GST) worth Rs 11.02 crore. Recovery of Rs 1,22,36,28,709 was shown by making fake challans.
The accused persons allegedly used personal data of illiterate and poor people of Bhavnagar district to obtain their Aadhaar and PAN cards. They then bought new SIM cards using these cards and registered them in the names of these people on the GST website. Thereafter, the accused used the technology of the government to generate fake bills, causing huge loss to the exchequer.
Gautam Parmar, IGP, Bhavnagar range, had constituted the SIT to investigate four cases of cheating registered in different police stations.
Out of a total of 461 bogus pedigree certificates, the accused used 236 certificates to make bogus invoices and made a bogus claim of Rs 1,22,36,28,709 (1.22 billion).
