Children need a break from studies to enjoy life: Kerala HC

Kochi, May 25 (). The Kerala High Court refused to extend an interim order allowing schools under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to conduct vacation classes for children above the age of 14 years.

Court said, after a busy academic year, students need a break, that is why summer vacation is given to the students. Students should enjoy the holidays and prepare for the next academic year.

The court said that holidays help students to focus on studies. They can reach out to their other ambitions in extracurricular activities, which they usually are not able to fulfill during the school year.

It further added, children need to enjoy free time with their family and friends, especially when a busy academic year awaits them.

Summer vacation is necessary for students to spend time with their families and for mental rest. Mere focus on school books is not enough for children. Let them sing, let them dance, eat their favorite food, enjoy their favorite TV program, play cricket, football or favorite game and enjoy trips with their relatives.

Judge Justice P.V. A busy academic year is coming up, said Kunhikrishnan. Before that a break is necessary for the student community. Students of class 10th and higher secondary school surely need a break before entering their decisive academic year in their lives.

The order was passed on a plea seeking interim direction to the Regional Director, CBSE, to allow vacation classes in CBSE schools.

The state’s Director of General Education (DGE) had issued a circular objecting to vacation classes.

The CBSE School Management Association moved the High Court against the circular.

Justice Kunhikrishnan ordered that he place the present petition before the Chief Justice for assigning it to an appropriate bench.

He also refused to extend the earlier interim order.
