New Delhi, May 31 (). The proposed meeting of opposition leaders is scheduled to be held in Patna on June 12, which will be attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and several other top party leaders.
The first meeting of opposition parties will be held in Patna on June 12 to discuss a joint strategy for the general elections to be held in 2024.
According to sources, more than 18 like-minded opposition parties will participate in the convention.
Ahead of the crucial meeting, a Congress source said Kharge, party general secretary (organisation) K.C. Apart from Venugopal, some other leaders will attend the meeting.
The source said former party chief Rahul Gandhi is also likely to attend the meeting on his return from the US trip by June 11.
Rahul Gandhi left for America on 30 May. He will lecture there at Stanford University, as well as participate in several events on Artificial Intelligence in the US with the diaspora, venture capitalists, tech executives, students, senior technology executives from Silicon Valley. In the same evening, apart from the diaspora, he will meet many other people.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is leading a campaign to unite all like-minded parties to form an alliance against the BJP-led NDA in view of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Nitish Kumar along with his deputy and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has met Kharge, Rahul Gandhi last month and also this month.
Nitish, leader of Janata Dal-United, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, CPI leader D. Raja, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, BJD leaders Naveen Patnaik has also met Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray. They are all in an effort to bring like-minded people together.
According to sources, at least 16 opposition parties, such as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin-led DMK, Aam Aadmi Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray), CPI(M), CPI, Congress, Trinamool Congress, SP, BRS and others have given their consent to attend the meeting to be held on June 12 Is.
