Aizawl, April 1 (). Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said road, rail and air connectivity projects worth Rs 1.76 lakh crore in the northeastern region will be completed by 2025.
Inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 11 projects worth Rs 2,500 crore in Mizoram. Addressing the program on this occasion, Amit Shah said that the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project is the most important project undertaken by India in Myanmar.

Shah said that the budgetary allocation under PM-DEVINE (Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North Eastern Region) has been increased by 276 per cent.
The Home Minister said that Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister of India, who visited the Northeast region 53 times in the last nine years, while Union Ministers visited 432 times to further the development of the region. This sector is one of the priority sectors of the Modi government.
He said with the surrender of 8,000 militants from various extremist organizations and the signing of various agreements, violent activities in the region have come down to a great extent.
Shah inaugurated the new battalion headquarters of the Assam Rifles at Jokhwasang, which is 15 km from Aizawl city. The Home Minister also laid the foundation stone for several infrastructure projects including Smart City Project, Aizawl Bypass Roads and several road projects for Aizawl, Champhai and Mamit districts.
He also laid the foundation stone of the Rs 193 crore Laldenga Cultural Center to be built in the northern part of the Assam Rifles Ground in the heart of the state capital.
According to officials, the Assam Rifles, which guards Mizoram’s 510-km border with Myanmar, has two bases in Aizawl, one at Jodin and the other at Khatla. The battalion headquarters at Jodin has been moved to Jokhwasang.
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said that with the laying of the foundation stone of Laldenga Cultural Center and shifting of the Assam Rifles Battalion Headquarters, the aspiration of the people of MNF in particular and Mizoram in general has become a reality.
Relocating the Assam Rifles from the Aizawl city center has been one of the major commitments of the MNF since the early 1990s.
Seven civilians were killed in a clash by the central paramilitary force. Subsequently, the demand to transfer the Assam Rifles was raised for the first time in 1988 by Laldenga. Transfer was also one of the important promises of the MNF in the last assembly elections held in November 2018.
In February 2019, the Union Home Ministry directed the Assam Rifles to shift its battalion headquarters to Jokhwasang by 31 May that year. However, it got delayed due to various reasons.
