Criminal involved in 200 incidents of chain snatching arrested

New Delhi, May 1 (). A 40-year-old man involved in nearly 200 incidents of snatching has been arrested. A senior Delhi Police officer gave this information on Monday.

The accused has been identified as Ranjit Singh alias Billa, who was apprehended from West Delhi.

Police said that he has been arrested earlier in more than 40 cases, including 22 cases of dacoity and snatching.

The official said Singh was active in West Delhiā€™s Tilak Nagar, Hari Nagar and Janakpuri areas.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, West, Akshat Kaushal, on April 26, the police received a tip-off about the accused and arrested him at Raghubir Nagar, where he had arrived to raid a stolen bike.

During interrogation, the accused named Singh accepted in front of the police that he has so far carried out more than 200 snatching incidents.

Kaushal said Singh revealed that he used to work alone and had become skilled at snatching the chain with his left hand while riding a bike. To avoid being recognized, he always wore a helmet and used a high-end bike stolen from the parking lot.

He targeted only the western district, as he was familiar with the escape routes.

According to the police, Singh was released on bail from Tihar Jail in May 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. After his release he went to his hometown in Alwar, Rajasthan, but later came back to Delhi and started snatching.
