Hyderabad, May 31 (). The Telangana High Court has ordered Kadapa MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy was succeeded by former Andhra Pradesh minister Y.S. Granted anticipatory bail in Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case.
The special vacation bench of the High Court gave its verdict on Wednesday. The court had completed the hearing of the case last week.
The anticipatory bail was opposed by the CBI and Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter Sunita Reddy.
The High Court had started the hearing after the Supreme Court expressed displeasure over the delay in the decision on the anticipatory bail plea of Avinash Reddy.
Avinash Reddy Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s cousin. He did not appear for questioning despite receiving summons from the CBI thrice this month.
The MP did not appear before the CBI in Hyderabad on 16 May and 19 May. He sought four days’ time on May 16 at Pulivendula citing pre-scheduled official engagements. He told the CBI on May 19 that his mother was ill. He was admitted to a hospital in Kurnool and the MP was also staying there.
The central agency had issued a fresh notice on May 19, directing him to appear at its Hyderabad office on May 22.
Amid reports of CBI officials reaching Kurnool for possible arrest, he wrote to the CBI seeking exemption from appearance till May 27 in view of his mother’s condition.
Vivekananda Reddy late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s brother and Jagan Mohan Reddy’s uncle. He was assassinated at his Pulivendula residence on 15 March 2019, a few weeks before the election.
The CBI last month arrested Avinash Reddy’s father Y.S. Bhaskar Reddy who is Rajasekhara Reddy’s cousin.
The agency told the court during the hearing on several occasions that Bhaskar Reddy, Avinash Reddy and their henchman Devireddy Siva Shankar Reddy conspired to kill Vivekananda Reddy as he opposed giving ticket to Avinash Reddy from Cuddapah Lok Sabha seat.
Avinash Reddy has denied the allegations leveled against him and his father. He has alleged that the CBI ignored several important facts in the case.
