Quito, April 20 (). The death toll in the March 26 landslide in Chimborazo province in central Ecuador has risen to 43. The Attorney General’s office has given this information. The agency said on social media on Wednesday that it ordered the removal of four more bodies from the landslide in Alausi, Xinhua news agency reported.
It has been said that till now 43 people have died in the natural calamity.
According to the Risk Management Secretariat, heavy rains triggered massive landslides during the night, burying buildings, roads and everything else on 24.3 hectares.
The secretariat said 41 bodies were recovered from the scene, while two victims died in hospital.
In addition, 45 people are missing, 43 have been injured and 32 have been rescued.
The landslide destroyed 163 houses and left 1,034 people homeless.
The fire department and military crew continued search and rescue operations for possible survivors amid the threat of another landslide.
