New Delhi, May 28 (). The Delhi Police is going to register an FIR under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the women wrestlers protesting at Jantar Mantar. Sources gave this information on Sunday.
A police source said, police have booked Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, Sangeeta Phogat and Bajrang Punia under IPC sections 149 (unlawful assembly), 352 (assaulting any person except on grave and sudden provocation), 353 (assault by public servant) An FIR is in the process of being registered under IPC (assault to intimidate) and 186 (obstructing public servant from duty).
Earlier, the Olympian wrestlers were taken into custody by the Delhi Police when they tried to march towards the newly constructed Parliament House on Sunday. They were taken to three different police stations in the city, so that there could be no contact between the three.
In an exclusive conversation with , Sakshi Malik revealed that she was taken to the police station in North Delhi’s Burari area and is being medically examined.
Sakshi said, I was in Burari and it was difficult to contact other wrestlers. Hope all is well. From here we will again go to Jantar Mantar and our fight will continue till we get justice.
