A 21-year-old woman in Delhi reportedly applied her forensic science training to orchestrate the murder of her live-in partner after discovering he had secretly recorded explicit videos of her. This disturbing case emerged on October 6 when the victim, an aspirant for the UPSC exam, was found deceased in his Timarpur apartment, initially thought to have died in a fire. Police stated that the woman, infuriated by her partner’s refusal to erase the recordings, enlisted the help of her ex-boyfriend and another acquaintance. Utilizing her forensic knowledge and her ex’s familiarity with gas cylinders, the three allegedly strangled and assaulted the victim before dousing the body with oil and alcohol.
To simulate an accident, they opened a gas cylinder regulator and ignited it, leading to an explosion that charred the body. Investigators noted that the woman was not only well-versed in forensic techniques but also a regular viewer of crime shows, which shaped her scheme. It was also revealed that she had initially studied forensic science before changing her major to computer science. The murder was uncovered after police examined CCTV footage from the vicinity, which captured two men entering and a woman exiting the flat prior to the explosion. Call records and surveillance information facilitated the arrests — the woman on October 18, her ex on October 21, and the third accomplice on October 23.
Authorities also recovered a hard disk with the explicit videos and additional evidence, including the victim’s clothing and mobile phones involved in the crime.
