Family of Delhi Blast Suspect Describes Him as Quiet and Studious

The relatives of Dr Umar Un Nabi, the primary suspect in the Delhi Red Fort car explosion, have expressed skepticism regarding his alleged connection to the attack. His sister-in-law Muzamil characterized him as a reserved individual who had dedicated himself to his studies and professional commitments since his youth. “He wasn’t that kind of man,” she stated, noting that Nabi had a limited circle of friends and devoted most of his time to academic pursuits or his job. Dr Umar, a healthcare worker at Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad, is thought to have been driving the Hyundai i20 that detonated near the Red Fort on Monday evening, resulting in 13 fatalities and injuries to over 20 individuals.

Authorities suspect he was instrumental in planning and transporting explosives from Pulwama to Delhi. It is believed that he might have died in the explosion. Muzamil disclosed that law enforcement had detained her husband, brother-in-law, and mother-in-law to inquire about Umar’s location. She mentioned that Umar had last contacted her on Friday, indicating he was preoccupied with exams and would be home shortly. “We put in a lot of effort to educate him. He had recently gotten engaged and hadn’t returned home in two months,” she added. Initial investigations suggest that the explosion involved ammonium nitrate, fuel oil, and detonators, potentially tied to the recently identified Faridabad terror module, which had a significant stockpile of explosive materials confiscated.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has assumed control of the investigation.
