Agartala, April 2 (). The Tripura Police on Saturday destroyed 7,999 kg of ganja and 49,860 highly addictive yaba tablets, worth Rs 4.2 crore. The officers provided this information.
A police spokesperson said that IGP R. A high-powered drug disposal committee headed by Gopal Krishna Rao destroyed drugs at Radhakishor Nagar in West Tripura.
The narcotics were seized during the last few months by various law enforcement agencies from different parts of the state.
Meanwhile, in the last one week, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Tripura Police seized a huge quantity of ganja worth about Rs 11 crore and arrested two persons in this connection.
Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also holds the home portfolio, during a discussion on the menace of drugs in the recently concluded assembly session had said that the state government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance against the drug trade.
Troops of the paramilitary force have beefed up vigil along Tripura’s 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh to curb cross-border smuggling of various kinds, a BSF official said.
