Kolkata, May 24 (). The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police, probing the May 16 blast at an illegal firecracker factory at Egra in East Midnapore district, on Wednesday arrested the widow of the factory’s slain owner.
Twelve people, including the owner of the illegal unit, Krishnapad Bagh, had lost their lives in the blast.
The injured Krishnapada Bagh alias Bhanu later died at a private nursing home in Cuttack, Odisha. On Wednesday, the CID arrested Bhanu’s wife Geeta Bagh.
Earlier, the CID had arrested Bhanu’s son Prithvijit Bagh and nephew Biswajit Bagh from Odisha in this case.
Police sources said that Geeta Bagh had fled to her maternal home in Odisha after the blast. On the information of sources, the CID raided on Wednesday and arrested him from there.
Geeta Bagh was also injured in the blast, said a state police official. However, his injuries were not that serious. He is a co-accused in this case.
Although preliminary police investigations indicate that the explosion was probably caused by raw material stored in the illegal firecracker unit, opposition parties have claimed that the effect of the explosion proved that crude bombs, not firecrackers, were being made there. Were.
