Elon Musk is once again making waves in the AI sector with a bold initiative aimed at challenging Microsoft. His AI firm, xAI, has announced the creation of a new spinoff named Macrohard, envisioned as a software company entirely driven by artificial intelligence. The name cleverly swaps ‘Micro’ for ‘Macro’ and ‘soft’ for ‘hard,’ directly targeting Microsoft. Musk posits that software companies like Microsoft, which do not produce physical hardware, can be replicated and operated exclusively by AI agents.
xAI co-founder Yuhuai Wu recently revealed on X that Macrohard is actively seeking new talent to develop ‘computer control agents.’ According to Wu, this team will focus on the development of Macrohard and Grok 5, the next iteration of xAI’s large language model. Both projects are slated for completion by the end of 2025, with job postings to follow shortly. Wu’s announcement was shared by xAI engineer Arshdeep Singh and amplified by Elon Musk, who encouraged potential candidates to ‘Help build Macrohard, the AI software company!’ Musk has been vocal about attracting top-tier talent to realize his AI ambitions, following his statement that Grok 5 will initiate training soon, with a full launch anticipated by year-end.
Macrohard is envisioned as a software-only entity, operating entirely through AI agents collaborating to enhance productivity and efficiency. This concept underscores Musk’s belief that AI can automate entire organizations, not just individual tasks.
