Chennai, April 24 (). The Tamil Nadu School Education Department will soon appoint coordinators to extend the free breakfast scheme to all primary schools in the state. According to officials of the School Education Department, a coordinator will be appointed for each educational district of the state.
District Education Officer (Elementary) will oversee the program which was launched by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has an ambitious plan.
The department has sought details of the number of students in each primary school and directed teachers and school heads to be part of a program that ensures breakfast is provided to all primary school children in the state.
The scheme is expected to cover 30,122 primary schools in the state and benefit 18 lakh students. The state government has already allocated an amount of Rs 500 crore for the project in the recent budget.
Chief Minister Stalin inaugurated the free breakfast scheme for primary school students at Adhimoolam Primary School in Madurai on September 14, 2022.
The scheme was launched in 1,545 primary schools across the state at a cost of Rs 33.56 crore and 1.14 lakh students were benefited in the first phase.
The success of the first phase of the program has prompted the government to expand the project to all government primary schools across the state.
