Bihar man slits wife's throat, commits suicide

Patna, May 1 (). One person was killed and four others injured when three unidentified assailants opened fire in Motihari town of Bihar’s East Champaran district on Monday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Prince Kumar, a native of Muzaffarpur district. The firing took place when the assailants targeted the gang members of Dev Kumar, who along with his associates were having refreshments at the same tea stall where Prince was consuming cold drinks.

Dev Kumar was involved in around six robbery and dacoity cases. Police said that the injured persons belonged to Dev Kumar’s gang. After the incident, East Champaran Superintendent of Police Kantesh Kumar Mishra reached the spot with a large number of police personnel.

Mishra said, at around 3.30 pm, Dev Kumar and his gang members were having cold drinks at a tea stall at Mathia village on the Dhaka-Motihari road. Three unknown assailants came and opened fire on him.

Mishra said, Prince Kumar had come from Muzaffarpur to distribute wedding cards. He was also drinking cold drinks at the time of the firing incident. The injured persons – Dev Kumar, Rajkumar Virat, Yash Prakash and Viraj Kumar – were admitted to a private hospital and their condition is said to be critical.

Sources said that Dev Kumar and his gang had a fight with members of another gang in Motihari on Sunday and attacked them, possibly to avenge Sunday’s incident.
