Google has launched its AI Plus subscription in more than 40 countries, including Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, the Philippines, Senegal, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe. This initiative aims to enhance the accessibility of AI tools globally. The subscription was first made available in Indonesia earlier this month, priced at approximately Rp 75,000 ($4.50) per month. In most regions, the cost of the Google AI Plus subscription is around $5 monthly. To attract new users, Google is providing a 50% discount for the initial six months in certain areas like Nepal and Mexico.
The AI Plus plan offers subscribers access to Gemini 2.5 Pro and creative tools for images and videos, such as Flow, Whisk, and Veo 3 Fast. Users will also benefit from additional features on NotebookLM, Google’s AI research assistant, and can utilize AI across Gmail, Docs, and Sheets. Furthermore, the plan includes 200GB of cloud storage for users to securely store their AI-generated content. This launch follows OpenAI’s recent expansion of its ChatGPT Go plan to Indonesia. However, unlike OpenAI, India is not included in Google’s list of countries where AI Plus is available.
Both Google and OpenAI continue to provide a $20-per-month base plan, but these more affordable options aim to reach users in areas where a $20 subscription may be prohibitive. Google’s intention with the AI Plus plan is to democratize access to advanced AI tools, enabling individuals to create, research, and work more effectively without facing high cost barriers. With the launch of the AI Plus subscription in such a wide array of countries, a larger audience can now engage with AI for various daily tasks, including writing, design, research, and productivity. This new pricing strategy underscores Google’s commitment to broadening its global AI user base while maintaining affordable costs.
