Chandigarh: The Haryana Vidhan Sabha today unanimously adopted a resolution to pay sincere tributes to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji in honor of his 350th Martyrdom Day. Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini introduced the resolution during the ongoing monsoon session. He noted that this year marks the 350th anniversary of the martyrdom of the ninth Sikh Guru and ‘Hind Ki Chaadar’, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. The assembly expressed profound respect for the supreme sacrifice made by Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji and solemnly resolved to commemorate this historic occasion with dignity.
While presenting the resolution, the Chief Minister recalled that in November 1675, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji sacrificed his life at Chandni Chowk, Delhi, to defend the right to freedom of faith and conscience. His followers – Bhai Mati Das Ji, who was sawn alive; Bhai Sati Das Ji, who was wrapped in cotton and burnt alive; and Bhai Dayala Ji, who was boiled alive – also displayed unwavering faith in their martyrdom. Their sacrifices represent an eternal example of courage, righteousness, and steadfast devotion. The Chief Minister further highlighted that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji laid down his life to uphold humanity’s dignity and protect religious freedom.
When Kashmiri Pandits approached him at Anandpur Sahib seeking refuge from forced conversions, Guru Sahib chose to sacrifice his life so they could live honorably and preserve their beliefs. Notably, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji had a deep connection with Haryana, visiting Kurukshetra, Pehowa, Kaithal, Jind, Ambala, Cheeka, and Rohtak during his travels, and sanctifying these locations while spreading his timeless message of truth, tolerance, and fearlessness. The gurdwaras established at these sites, such as Gurdwara Sri Dhamtan Sahib and Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib in Jind and Gurdwara Sri Sheeshganj Sahib in Ambala, serve as lasting reminders of his teachings and blessings.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the heroic role of Bhai Jaita Ji, who valiantly transported the severed head of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji from Delhi to Anandpur Sahib, passing through various parts of Haryana, including Badkhalsa village near Sonipat, Karnal, and Ambala, where he received significant support from the local populace. This further emphasizes Haryana’s lasting connection to the legacy of Guru Sahib’s martyrdom. He also honored the supreme sacrifice of Shaheed Kushal Singh Dahiya from Badkhalsa village in Sonipat district.
