Heavy police force deployed in Delhi's Jahangirpuri after the procession was denied permission

New Delhi, March 30 (). Delhi Police personnel were deployed in large numbers in the city’s Jahangirpuri area on Thursday to maintain law and order as travel was not allowed on the occasion of Ram Navami.

The Delhi Police on Monday denied permission to take out a Shri Ram Bhagwan idol procession, as well as offer Ramzan prayers at a park in the same area.

An order issued by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Headquarters, North-West District on Monday said, “I am directed to inform you that on your request for Shri Ram Bhagwan Pratima Yatra on Thursday on the occasion of Ram Navami, the competent authority will has been considered. But could not be accepted from law and order point of view.

It may be noted that on April 16 last year, a clash broke out between two groups of different communities during a procession taken out on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti in Jahangirpuri area.

At least eight policemen and a civilian suffered injuries in the violence that followed.
