Kolkata, 30 April (). A team from the International Labor Organization (ILO) will visit the state to study some of the welfare schemes launched by the West Bengal government.
State government sources said that a three-member ILO team would reach Kolkata on May 2.
First, he will hold a meeting with selected officials of the state government and in the next few days he will visit some districts to review and study the implementation of selected welfare schemes, said a government official.
It is learned that representatives of the ILO have shown special interest in reviewing the state government’s scheme Kanyashree Prakalpa. It is a conditional cash transfer scheme aimed at improving the lives of girls from economically backward classes in the state by providing them an opportunity to continue their studies instead of getting married at an early age.
A state government official said, representatives of the ILO will visit some schools in districts adjoining Kolkata in West Bengal. Apart from reviewing the implementation of the scheme, he is also expected to interact with some of the beneficiaries regarding its implementation.
He said, apart from the Kanyashree project, the ILO team will also review two other welfare schemes of the West Bengal government. This includes the Rupashree Prakalp scheme, which provides a one-time assistance of Rs 25,000 for the marriage of a girl child to financially backward families. Another scheme is the Laxmi Bhandar Prakalp, under which all women are given grants ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000.
The ILO team is likely to interact with the beneficiaries of both these schemes in the districts they will visit, said a state government official.
