India was fined five percent of their match fees on Wednesday for a slow over-rate during their Women’s ODI World Cup match against Australia. The team lost the high-scoring match by three wickets, with Australia achieving a record chase on Sunday in Visakhapatnam. India is set to face England in a crucial match on Sunday in Indore. Michell Periera from the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the fine, as India was deemed to be one over short of the target after accounting for time allowances.

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, fines of five percent of the match fee are imposed for each over not bowled within the allotted time. The ICC noted that India’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, accepted the sanction and admitted to the offence, eliminating the need for a formal hearing. The charge was raised by on-field umpires Sue Redfern and Nimali Perera, along with third umpire Kim Cotton and fourth umpire Jacquline Williams.
