New Delhi, May 28 (). NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam said after the Governing Council meeting on Saturday that India is on course to become the world’s third largest economy in a few years as the country is currently at the take-off point.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who chaired the meeting, also urged all the stakeholders to grab the opportunities, saying that the aspiration of a developed India is not the vision of an individual or a small group, but it is the vision of India.
Addressing the media after the eighth Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog, Subrahmanyam said, the theme was Developed India. Why was it chosen? Because India should be ready for next 25 years and we will be a developed nation in next 25 years. Why is developed India so important at this point? This is important, because India is at a moment of take off.
We are not only the largest country by population, but also the fifth largest economy. The fifth is going to become the third in a few years.
He stressed that the demography is in our favor not only in terms of the total number of people but also in terms of the number of youth.
India will have about 20 per cent of the world’s working age population in some, and it is going to be the largest provider of working age people between 28-29 for the next 20 years.
He said, the time has come for India to make use of these opportunities.. Countries that cross this particular level of development actually go through a rapid period of sustained high-speed growth if the right things are done. So we have 20-25 years in which if we do things right, the country can meet its ambitious goals.
He said: There are other things that are going on in India – there is a lot of digitization in the country and the world is really looking at India, as the Prime Minister said in the meeting, the kind of activity that is happening in the country on the digital front. But something is really amazing and the rest of the world is watching us.
The whole world is looking towards India and that is what the Prime Minister said. He asked all the Chief Ministers to go there and take advantage of the opportunities. He also emphasized on why developed India is relevant for the states as most of the action rests with the states to become a developed India, be it industry, water supply, electricity, health or education and This is where NITI Aayog plays an important role.
Subrahmanyam said that in his opening remarks, Prime Minister Modi talked about many things.
