Dhaka: The Indian men’s recurve and women’s compound archery teams progressed to the finals of the Asian Archery Championships on Monday. The second-seeded men’s recurve team, consisting of Yashdeep Sanjay Bhoge, Atanu Das, and Rahul, defeated Kazakhstan 5-3, setting up a final against South Korea, who triumphed over Uzbekistan 6-2 in the semi-finals. The men’s team began their campaign with a strong 6-2 win against Turkmenistan, followed by a dominant 6-0 victory over Malaysia in the quarter-finals. Bhoge achieved a career-best qualification score of 687 points, including nine X10s. His only previous international medal was in the mixed team event at the 2019 Asia Cup in Bangkok. Atanu finished seventh with 668 points, while Rahul placed 11th with 666.

The women’s team, featuring Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep, and Deepsikha, overcame the host nation Bangladesh 234-227 in the semi-finals to face South Korea, who defeated Iran 237-227. The top-seeded women’s team began with a 235-225 victory over Vietnam in the quarter-finals and secured their spot in the finals against Bangladesh. In the qualification rounds, Deepshikha led with a score of 705, followed closely by world number two Jyothi Surekha Vennam with 703, and promising talents Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi, who both scored 702 and 701, respectively, with just one point separating them. The Asian Archery Championships will continue in Dhaka on Tuesday with individual and team eliminations, running throughout the week.

The compound finals are scheduled for Thursday, and the recurve finals will take place on Friday. A total of 207 archers from 29 nations are competing for continental honors across 10 events at the National Stadium in Dhaka. India’s experienced archer Deepika Kumari aims to secure her first gold medal of the season after winning bronze in Shanghai.
