Apple is gearing up for its highly anticipated event on September 9, and as the launch of the iPhone 17 Pro approaches, speculation is intensifying. This includes rumors about Titanium models and improvements in camera hardware and software for the Pro versions. As a user of the iPhone 16 Pro, I believe there are several ways to enhance the camera experience for the iPhone 17 Pro. One potential update is the addition of telephoto macro support. Previously, macro photography on the iPhone required using the ultra-wide lens and getting very close to the subject, which is not ideal for capturing details of small living things like bugs or flowers.
Incorporating a telephoto macro option, similar to what the Vivo X200 Pro and Google Pixel 10 series offer, could make it much easier to capture such moments. Another significant improvement could be native ProRes Log recording in 4K without the need for external SSDs. Currently, recording in 4K ProRes on the iPhone 16 Pro necessitates an SSD for higher frame rates, which is not convenient for content creators. Finally, while Apple’s Photographic Styles like Vibrant, Gold, Quiet, and Ethereal are enjoyable, there is potential for further development. The iPhone 17 Pro could benefit from features similar to the film simulations found in the Fuji X100 series, which provide subtle emulations of classic film stocks and creative options.
