Apple is preparing to unveil its new iPhone 17 series tomorrow, September 9, at 10:30 PM IST, with a focus on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. These models are anticipated to offer substantial improvements in design, performance, and camera capabilities. Leaks have already stirred considerable excitement, indicating a significant advancement over the iPhone 16 series. The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to feature a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max may come with a larger 6.9-inch screen. Reports suggest both models will have brighter displays with enhanced anti-reflective coatings for better clarity.
All iPhone 17 variants are likely to include 120Hz refresh rate displays, although only the Pro versions are expected to maintain adaptive refresh rates that can drop to 1Hz, allowing for always-on display functionality. In terms of design, while the overall dimensions may be similar to last year’s models, there may be a slight increase in thickness to accommodate larger batteries. Apple is rumored to be transitioning from its titanium frame to a new dual-material design, featuring aluminum on the upper rear for durability and glass on the lower half to facilitate wireless charging. CAD renders indicate a bold new horizontal rectangular camera module at the top of the device.
A standout feature of the iPhone 17 Pro series is the upgraded camera system. Leaks suggest that Apple may introduce a 48-megapixel telephoto lens, joining the wide and ultra-wide cameras that also have 48MP sensors. This would mark the first instance of an iPhone series featuring three 48MP lenses, promising enhanced photo quality and detail. The zoom capabilities may also see a significant upgrade, with the Pro model offering up to 3.5x optical zoom and the Pro Max reaching an impressive 8x. Additional rumored features include 8K video recording, simultaneous dual video capture using front and rear cameras, and potentially a variable aperture on the wide lens.
For selfies, all 2025 iPhones, including the Pro models, might come with a 24MP front camera, doubling the resolution from the previous year. The iPhone 17 Pro series is expected to debut the A19 Pro chip, built on an advanced 3nm process, enhancing both efficiency and performance. RAM is projected to increase to 12GB, up from 8GB in the iPhone 16 Pro models. Vapor chamber cooling could be introduced for the first time, aiding in heat management during gaming and 8K video recording. Battery life may also improve, particularly in the Pro Max, which is rumored to feature a 5,000mAh battery, the largest ever in an iPhone.
Enhanced efficiency from the A19 Pro chip and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X80 modem could further extend battery life. Charging speeds may increase as well, with support for Qi 2.2 wireless charging at 25W and the possibility of reverse wireless charging for AirPods or Apple Watch. New color options are expected this year, including a distinctive copper-orange, along with classic colors like black, silver, gray, and dark blue, plus a special “Liquid Glass” variant inspired by iOS 26. Expected cases may feature cutouts for straps, metallic buttons, and potentially a new Apple magnetic crossbody strap accessory.
However, pricing may change, with analysts at JPMorgan predicting a $100 increase for the iPhone 17 Pro in the US, starting at $1,099, while the Pro Max may remain priced at $1,199. In India, the iPhone 17 Pro is likely to be priced around ₹1.30 lakh, with the Pro Max estimated at approximately ₹1.44 lakh.
